Welcome to Your Herndon, VA Real Estate Guide
Life in Herndon, VA
Herndon is a small incorporated town located in Fairfax County, VA, west of Reston, with easy access to the Dulles Airport Toll Road. Established in 1858, the town was named after William Herndon, the famous American Naval explorer. Once the Civil War had ended, many Northern veterans settled in Herndon with their families. Herndon was a major stop on the Washington and Old Dominion Railroad, going towards the abundant farms of Loudoun County.
Although the rail line has long since been dismantled, the right-of-way is now a beautiful 45-mile bike and hike trail that goes from Arlington to Purcellville. Herndon’s actual rail station has been transformed into a tourist attraction in the form of a museum. Once a huge swath of farmland, Herndon is now a village with a bustling commercial section filled with restaurants, shops, and a lot of small businesses. Herndon residents also have access to plenty of local entertainment.
